Ironing Instructions

Your DTF transfer is a full-color design printed on a special film. A heat press gives the most reliable result, but a household iron can work too. Follow these steps for a design that looks great and lasts.
Before you start
- Use a garment that is cotton, polyester or a blend. Avoid nylon, waterproof, and heavily textured fabrics.
- Wash and dry the garment first without fabric softener, so it is clean and shrinking is done.
- Work on a firm, flat, heat-safe surface. A table with a folded towel works. Do not use an ironing board, which is too soft.
- Leave the transfer on its backing sheet until you are ready to press.
Heat press (best results)
- Set the press to 300–325°F (150–165°C) with medium to firm pressure.
- Press the garment for 3–5 seconds to flatten it and remove moisture.
- Place the transfer design side down (the shiny film side up) where you want it. Check that it is straight and centered.
- Cover with a sheet of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press for 10–15 seconds.
- Let the transfer cool completely, then peel the film away slowly in one smooth motion, starting from a corner. If any part lifts with the film, lay the film back down and press for 5 more seconds, then let it cool and try again.
- Cover the design with parchment paper and press once more for 5–10 seconds to lock it in.
Household iron
- Set the iron to the cotton setting with the steam turned off. Let it heat fully.
- Iron the garment for a few seconds to flatten it and remove moisture.
- Place the transfer design side down on the garment and cover it with parchment paper or a thin cotton cloth.
- Press down firmly with the whole iron for 15–20 seconds, using your body weight. Do not slide the iron back and forth. For a large design, press one section at a time and overlap the sections slightly.
- Let it cool completely before you peel the film off. Peel slowly from a corner. If a spot did not stick, lay the film back down and press that spot again.
- Cover the design with parchment paper and press for 10 seconds to finish it.
Caring for your finished item
- Wait 24 hours before the first wash.
- Wash inside out in cold or warm water on a gentle cycle. Do not use bleach.
- Tumble dry on low, or hang to dry. High heat can wear the design faster.
- Do not iron directly on the design. If you need to iron the garment, turn it inside out.
- Do not dry clean.
Troubleshooting
- The edges lift or peel: the transfer needed more heat, pressure or time. Cover it and press again for 10–15 seconds.
- The design looks shiny or flat: that is normal from the film. A final press with parchment paper gives a softer, matte finish.
- The transfer will not release from the film: it was probably peeled while still warm. Let it cool all the way, then peel.
- Scorch marks or shiny fabric: the heat was too high or no cover sheet was used. Always press through parchment paper.
